Some recipes just make you feel good about yourself. This is one of them. It starts with a protein ice cream you can make at home, and then it turns into one of the best affogatos you've ever had. Clean ingredients, genuinely delicious, and ready to become a regular in your rotation.
Let's start with the ice cream.
Protein Ice Cream: The Base

What you'll need (makes 2 servings):
- 2 scoops Elevate Organic Protein Powder (vanilla is the classic here; chocolate makes it a mocha affogato)
- 1 cup milk of your choice
- 1 tablespoon raw honey or pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- A pinch of sea salt
How to make it:
Combine all ingredients and whisk or blend until smooth and fully combined. Pour into a shallow freezer-safe container, a loaf pan works perfectly, and freeze for at least 4 hours, or overnight if you can wait that long.
Here's the key step most people skip: every 45 minutes to an hour for the first 3 hours, pull it out of the freezer and stir it vigorously with a fork, breaking up any ice crystals that are forming. This is what gives you a creamy, scoopable texture instead of a solid block. Three stirs should be enough.
When it's fully frozen, and you've done your stirs, it should scoop like soft-serve. Eat it as is, or keep reading for the affogato.
A few variations worth making
Chocolate: swap vanilla protein for chocolate and add a tablespoon of raw cacao powder to the base.
Salted caramel: add an extra pinch of sea salt and a drizzle of raw honey into the base.
Now, The Affogato…

What you'll need:
- 2 scoops of your homemade protein ice cream
-
1–2 shots of fresh espresso, pulled hot
How to make it:
Scoop your protein ice cream into a glass or a small bowl, something with a little depth so the espresso has somewhere to go.
Pull your espresso shots fresh. This part matters. The contrast between the hot espresso and the cold ice cream is the whole experience. The espresso melts the edges of the scoop just slightly, creating this incredible creamy, bittersweet pool at the bottom of the glass.
Pour the hot espresso directly over the ice cream. Let it sit for just a moment before you dig in.
Optional finishes: a pinch of cacao powder, a few cacao nibs for texture, or a tiny flake of sea salt right on top.
Eat it immediately, while the temperature contrast is still doing its thing.
